         <title>How We See It</title>
         <description><![CDATA[How we see it:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<br />&nbsp;<br />Our journey into the world of Low Intensity Laser Therapy was unexpected. It is an ongoing journey which is both challenging and exciting. Along the way we have rubbed shoulders with some of the world leaders in the field of Photobiostimulation.<br />&nbsp;<br />The enormous potential of this science is obvious.<br />The power to offer patients a therapy which may benefit them where other treatments have failed.<br />&nbsp;<br />But with this power comes a huge responsibility. A responsibility to accurately inform patients what LILT can and can not do. A responsibility to use appropriate treatment protocols depending on a correct diagnosis. A responsibility to revisit that diagnosis should a patient not respond to treatment as well as the ability to make suggestions regarding further treatment.<br />&nbsp;<br />Our advice to patients who are considering LILT is as follows:&nbsp; Make sure you choose a Centre which uses Laser Therapeutic Systems of the highest quality and have health care professionals who provide care based on the principles mentioned above.<br />&nbsp;<br />At BioTech we use the <a href="http://practitioners.meditech-bioflex.com/equipment/bioflex-professional-lilt-system.php" target="_blank" title="BioFlex Low Intensity Laser Therapy Equipment">BioFlex System</a>. The system was developed by <a href="http://drkahn.meditech-bioflex.com" target="_blank" title="Dr Fred Kahn of Meditech International">Dr. Fred Kahn</a>, MD, FRCS(C) , Vascular Surgeon, at <a href="http://www.meditech-bioflex.com" target="_blank" title="Meditech International">Meditech International</a>  in Toronto.          <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>How do I know if LILT may benefit my condition?</strong></p><p>Discuss your condition with your Physician.<br />Confirm that an appropriate work-up was done to arrive at a specific diagnosis.<br />Clarify what treatments have been tried and what other treatments are still available.<br />LILT may provide you with a treatment option where others have failed.</p><p>You may prefer LILT over more invasive procedures or as an alternative to chronic medications which you have found to be ineffective.</p><p>Patients usually present to&nbsp; Biotech Laser Rehabilitation Centre as one of the following: </p><ol><li>They are referred by a Physician with an accompanying diagnosis.</li><li>They present without a referral but with a diagnosis established by their Family Physician or Specialist</li><li>They present with a complaint but no associated diagnosis.</li></ol><p>&nbsp;</p><p>All patients are first evaluated by a physiotherapist who clarify the diagnosis and the appropriateness of LILT for their specific condition.<br />Laser Therapy treatment usually follows the first evaluation an a same day basis.</p><p>Patients who do not have an established diagnosis will receive LILT where appropriate but will be asked to follow-up with their Family Physician during the course of their treatment.</p><p>Patients who do not have a Family Physician may be referred to a Physician associated with our Clinic depending on their response to treatment and follow-up evaluations by a Physiotherapist.</p>]]></description>

         <title>What Is Laser Therapy?</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>What is Laser Therapy? </strong></p>
<p>Laser therapy is the use of red and near infrared monochromatic
light to enhance the body’s natural healing processes. The light source
is placed in contact with the skin allowing the light energy (photons)
to penetrate tissue, where it interacts with various molecules
resulting in the restoration of normal cellular function. <br /></p>
<p><strong>The Technology</strong> </p><p>The BioFlex Low Intensity
Laser Therapy System uses both super luminous and laser diodes to
produce photons of light energy. These photons are absorbed by a
variety of chromophores (light absorbing molecules) within the cell.
When chromophores absorb these photons there is an increase in the
amount of biochemical energy within the cells.&nbsp; The resulting increase
in energy results in improved cellular function.</p><p>Light in its
various forms has been used for healing from the time of the ancient
Egyptian and Greek civilizations.&nbsp; The negative effects of the absence
of light on the human body are also well known (Seasonal Affectivity
Disorder, Rickets, etc.).&nbsp; Recent advances in the engineering of laser
therapy devices and the development of appropriate dosages for
effective therapeutic application has dramatically improved the results
of this therapy.&nbsp; <br /></p><p><b>What you Feel as a Patient</b></p><p>You
will feel a slight warming of the area being treated.&nbsp; Other than the
minor temperature increase you will feel nothing during the therapy.</p><p><strong>The Advantages of Low Intensity Laser Therapy </strong></p>

<ul><li>Reduction in pain</li><ul><li>Production and release of beta-endorphins</li></ul><li>Improvement in localized blood flow</li><ul><li>Small localized increase in temperature</li></ul><li>The short-term effect is significant in 5-10% of cases during or
after the conclusion of the initial treatment, but is not as important
as the long term or cumulative effect</li></ul>
